The NOMAD buoy is a heavy displacement, deep keel, small aluminum boat of 10' beam, 20' length, a 5' draw and 16,000 lbs displacement. Equipment and batteries sit below deck in the four sealed compartments. The primary purpose of the buoy is to record a measure a variety of marine related data/information which is then transmitted onshore for live monitoring and recording. It is currently stationed off of Santa Barbara, California
It has a onboard 12V, 800 A-Hr battery system which is recharged by a combination of (4) Kyocera 145 W solar panels and a 300 W Typmar vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT). It is supported by Victron MPPT solar charge controllers and battery monitor which are network together provides remote monitoring capability for the offshore buoy.
